Children on the move

On most airlines, children must be at least 5 years old to travel alone. For children between the ages of 5 and 11, most airlines offer an assistance service. The airlines must be informed of the names of the person who will deliver the child to the airport and of the person picking up the child at the destination airport.

The airline’s assistance service takes care of your child before the flight and provides an escort to the aircraft. On arrival at the destination, airport personnel will be on hand to meet the child at the gate.

Book well in advance

Check with your airline whether the service costs anything and what rules apply to your child’s flight. It is important to book the flight well in advance, since the number of unaccompanied children per flight is limited.
