World’s largest aircraft on visit to Stockholm Arlanda

The world’s largest aircraft landed today at Stockholm Arlanda Airport. The aircraft is an AN-225 six-engine jet. Air cargo is an essential requirement for Swedish imports and exports, with more than 20 per cent of the total value of Swedish exports handled today by air cargo. It is also an important component for passenger airlines – since air cargo in the baggage hold is a key contributor to the profitability of long-haul carriers.

There is only one example of the world’s largest aircraft, the AN-225, which landed today at Stockholm Arlanda Airport. The plane was built by Antonov in the former Soviet Union but is now based in Ukraine. The purpose of the visit is to transport goods to Asia, with the shortest route being northeast across Russia. The flight is operated by Kales Airline Services and the freight forwarding company Agility Logistics. It is the first time this gigantic jet is flying cargo from a Nordic country.

“Air cargo enables efficient delivery to customers and links up production units around the world. This visit is an excellent example of the importance air cargo has for Swedish companies working in a global market,” says Kjell-Åke Westin, airport director at Stockholm Arlanda.
