Several things are important to think about concerning baggage you will be checking in, for example weight limits and what to do with prams (baby carriages).
How many kilos of baggage may you check in?
Ask your airline how many kilos of baggage you may check in. One piece of advice is not to pack fragile items in your checked baggage.
Be careful with film
X-ray equipment for screening checked-in baggage may damage both exposed and unexposed film, so always pack film in your hand baggage.
Send your excess baggage on international flights in advance
Are you going to travel abroad and have excess baggage? If you wish, you may send this baggage with Travel Cargo a few days before your departure date. Contact Travel Cargo in Terminal 5, tel. 08-597 854 80.
Oversized checked baggage
Carrying special baggage on aircraft will often result in an extra charge. Ask your airline what rules apply. For prams (baby carriages), special packaging is available for purchase at the airport, from the airlines.
Straps on baggage
Remove or tie any straps, strings or belts on your baggage before you check in since it significantly reduces the risk of them getting caught during the sorting process. Hard-sided baggage should not have any extra straps around it because they can slide off and then get caught during transport.
Name and address label inside your bag
It is a good idea to put a label with your name and address on it inside your bag. If your baggage is misplaced, you can indicate that there is a label inside the bag with your name and address on it, which will make identification easier. If you lose your baggage or it gets damaged, contact an employee at the service counter in the arrival hall.
How to attach the baggage tag
When you attach the baggage tag yourself, carefully form a tear-shaped loop through the handle with the bar code facing outward. See below. This ensures that the tag will remain in place and that the bar code can be read regardless of which end of the tag ends up facing up.
Tear off your baggage receipt and remove the protective paper.

Feed the baggage tag through the handle. Fold the tag. The tag should be tear-shaped.
