Environmental permit

Swedavia will apply for a new environmental permit for the operations at Stockholm Arlanda Airport. Here you will find background information, such as documentation for consultations and studies related to the new permit.

Swedavia intends to submit an application for a new environmental permit to the Environmental Court at the Nacka District Court during the first quarter of 2011. This application is aimed at ensuring operations in the long term and will include a review of all operations, among other things aircraft departure and arrival routes. The application will describe the overall environmental impact of the airport’s operations.

Consultation meetings

In conjunction with the new application, Swedavia has invited local authorities and county administrative boards concerned, organisations operating at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, the Swedish Transport Agency, the Geological Survey of Sweden, the association Käppalaförbundet and the general public to consultation meetings. The aim of the consultation meetings has been to gather views on what Swedavia proposes and to provide general information about the planned content of the upcoming application.

Following consultation meetings were held during the period December 2009 - November 2010:

  • On December 11, 2009 a consultation meeting was held with the municipality of Sigtuna.
  • On January 14, 2010, a consultation meeting with the municipality of Upplands Väsby was held.
  • On January 26, 2010, a consultation meeting with representatives of municipalities and county administrative boards was held.
  • On January 27, 2010, a consultation meeting with companies and organisations working at Stockholm Arlanda was held.
  • On January 27, 2010, a consultation meeting for the general public was held.
  • On February 17, 2010, a consultation meeting was held with local authorities, county administrative boards, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, Käppalaförbundet and Norrvatten.
  • On March 10, 2010, a consultation meeting was held with the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and the Stockholm County Administrative Board.
  • On April 26, 2010, a consultation meeting was held with the Vallentuna Local Authority.
  • On November 11, 2010,  a consultation meeting was held with the Stockholm County Administrative Board, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, the Sigtuna Local Authority, the Geological Survey of Sweden and tenants in the vicinity of Lake Halmsjön.

Previous consultation meetings

A number of consultation meetings have been held to provide overall information about the planned contents of the future application and to gather the opinions of stakeholders at an early stage.

  • On December 3, 2008, consultations were held with representatives of municipalities and county administrative boards.

  • On August 25, 2009, a consultation meeting was held with the municipality of Järfälla.
  • On September 2, 2009, a consultation meeting was held with the municipality of Upplands-Bro.
  • On September 8, 2009, a consultation meeting was held with the Swedish Transport Agency.
  • On September 28, 2009, a consultation meeting was held with the municipality of Håbo.
